I am an Owner of two UK Holiday Let Properties. I advertise the properties on 4 different Websites. We have been letting our Properties on these Websites for 12 years now so are very experienced indeed.
Homeaway have been taken over by VRBO now and the Customer Service aspect is now nothing short of appalling, bordering on dishonest in my opinion. VRBO take a cut of the owners money and a cut of the bookers money and from what I can see do absolutely nothing whatsoever to earn this money. They are inconsistent in their Policies and help neither the Property Owner or the Holidaymaker should situations or concerns develop.
My earnest suggestion to anyone reading this is to find an alternative platform/Website than VRBO to book your vacation through. To end I would draw your attention to the fact that any decent recent of VRBO on here has an “invited” tick next to it.....that’s interesting isn’t it! Want the “real” Reviews? Ignore the “invited” Reviews would be my advice.
Very disappointed with the COVID cancellation policy .. They claim to encourage their listers to refund due to the virus,, this is not the case.. we tried to cancel 6 weeks before our trip ,, first they said they would.. a month later when our CC statement came in we found they had not.. we called the CC company to ask if it was to be credited for the next statement .. it was not.. we they called the manager, she said we would not get a penny back.. so we said OK we are coming.. she had already booked our place so she had to put us in another.. now that is double dipping.. no refund and double dipping.. not right at all

VRBO has the friendliest customer service people who are absolutely powerless to make any decisions. The company deserves a minus 5 star rating for nightmarish customer service. Stay at a reputable lodge or hotel for the same money and greater peace of mind.
I have been trying to coordinate a refund for over 2 weeks. I've listened to hours of not so good music. The property has finally cancelled but VRBO has yet to refund our booking fee.
Before you book I suggest you call their customer service number to get an idea of how long you'll be on hold should you have the slightest problem. Be aware that the probability is that they will either deny or be unable to resolve your problem. VRBO changes vacation fun into a house of horrors.
My experience with Vrbo was horrible. I will never attempt to use them again - totally unreliable. Booked a reservation in February for a week in July 2021. 30 days ahead of my reservation, the host cancels with no explanation. Unfortunately, the location we were going to meet other family members was completely sold out (and had non-refundable flights). Called Vrbo customer service and was given an option of a location over 2 hours away. I found another rental (different company) at a higher price. Finally got to a supervisor and after being on hold for over 20 minutes, they said they could not provide financial support - either for the flights or the more expensive place. They set up a Case number and said they would get back. About 3 hours later, I got an email from Jordan at Customer Service saying the case did not qualify for financial assistance under their Book with Confidence program. Read it - it is bull. Then they said they found 2 properties near where I was going - the only thing is that it was the wrong month.
Last week I made a booking at VRBO for a week holiday at a nice place in Tuscany. The total cost was 990 Euro which I was ready to pay after recieving an invoice.
Then suddenly the day after the company send me an new invoice of now 1440 Euro.
When I then asked why the price suddenly went up they just cancelled my reservation without any other comments than that I havent payed. Luckely enough I havent already payed for the house.
I have then heard from many other friends that this company - VRBO is not reliable. Lack of customer service, they do not reply e-mails. I would never use this company again.
Awful. The owner of my holiday cancelled my booking (holiday gazumped) which was bad enough in itself. However, VRBO did not process the refund. On chasing it up, I was told I had to phone a company in the USA? I have never known anything like it, avoid avoid avoid!
We stayed in Florida two weeks ago at a Vrbo home. It was filthy upon arrival and I left an honest review after we got home. We have been home for two weeks now, right as they received my review we were contacted by the owner that we are being charged $1800 for the carpets that were filthy. How is this possible?? We were at the parks all day every day and didn't ever eat there..... so I guess your are charged if your review is negative. I have been on hold for hours with Vrbo, I'm sure I'll never talk to a person. This is criminal!
They partner with predators. They support people we condone minor suicide as well as suicide in general! Sick SICK and SICK
They are a Rip Off. They took $90 out of my account after my booking was cancelled. I still haven't got my money back. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone around all.. Now I have to file a report with police and my bank.

Scam properties on website, quite clearly are scammers wanting you to book a villa too cheap where it looks too go to be true. Don’t be fooled by the price. Vrbo obviously don’t do any checks to make sure the properties advertised are legit. Be warned stay away
We were very excited upon getting to the Castle House on the beach. A great location, nice deck, and two parking spots, were the highlights of the use of the property.
The house is dated and in need of a lot of care. The steep tile stairs are cracking and loose, no hand rail. The towels looked like they have been there since the 50’s, (old, stained, and well used). The furniture covers were stained as well as the couch upholstery and accumulations of dust and pet hair around and under the furniture. Fly’s, thought we were near a horse stable, there were so many. We also had family staying at a nearby house on the beach and they had no flies, so I’m sure it wasn’t just being down at the beach. Upon taking out our first bag of garbage to the trash can, it was already 1/2 to 3/4 full and the recycle can was 1/2 full. With no written instructions as to what to do with the excess, we compacted as best we could and ended up leaving 3 closed kitchen size garbage bags, tied and neatly left by the garbage cans, this seems to be a re-occurring issue with the property, (check past reviews). We used the BBQ, and left it in the same condition as it was, dirty grill. With no where to dump hot coal, (and no written directions as to what to do with them), and no metal can to dump them into, they were left to die out safely and responsibly in the BBQ.
The deck was the best thing going for this house, with a single lounger, table and chairs (one which had a broken seat and should be disposed of), and end type tables for our use.
In contacting the Host at the end of our family vacation, it seems as if she expected us to spend our time contacting her every time something was not as it should have been, ie... garbage cans already have full, old dirty looking towels, excessive flies in the house, floors and furniture not clean and stained, BBQ grill dirty, ...
This is not how we expect to spend our family vacations, having to report to the Host, the short comings of the property and its staff.
We will definitely look into the many other houses available to stay at, upon our next stay at Stinson Beach.
Recently cancelled an upcoming trip due to a festival not happening due to covid. The owner was great to work with, understanding & flexible, and a refund was provided. However VRBO directly, did not refund the service fee or state tax. Multiple attempts to call/speak with a representative & chatting through messenger on their website. Every time, I was told the refund would be processed for the remaining amount. It never happened, the refund still hasn't been processed over 2 months later & multiple attempts. I was told on the phone today the request wasn't ever sent through, they could see record of my calls & chats though. I wasn't allowed to speak with a supervisor regarding since the agent "did everything right on their end." VRBO has been holding onto the service fee & state tax. One agent even asked permission to go through my VRBO messages with the owner to verify the refund was given even though you can see it on my account under the reservation number. I will never book through VRBO again.

I have had the same problem on more than one occasion! Not only are they difficult to understand, but they are incredibly rude as well! I am so disenchanted with VRBO and their lack of customer service, which use to be impeccable! Most definitely looking to list our properties elsewhere.

Dont even bother trying VRBO SUCKS at Customer service. THey pass you off to a homeowner, who mostly uses VRBO to help. Its a huge circle of getting no where. VRBO passes the buck and is USELESS in terms of customer service.
